March 4, 2010 - Our newest course! French Wine Academy (FWA) -
Introduction to French Wine Class(VA) $62.50 - Special Rate!
This foundation course sets the stage. Find out why France is synonymous with wine. Explore the diversity of the wine regions of this country and find out how these Old World vineyards compare to their New World counterparts. While doing so, you’ll learn the fundamental concepts of wine and vine, expand your wine vocabulary and hone your palate!
An Introduction to the Wines of France Syllabus:
In this class, you will discover France as an historic producer and exporter of wine. Did you know that France was the first nation to set wine production standards…that seven of the eight “international” grape varieties are indigenous to France? Learn about terroir and the French concept of “grape growing” vs. “wine making”. Explore the French ideal of wine “quality”, then put theory to the taste test as you ‘tour’ Champagne, Alsace, the Loire, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Rhone and Southern France learning about their climates, soils, grapes and wine styles.
More about this class:
This foundation class is part of the official French Wine Academy curriculum. It was created by the French Wine Society and is endorsed by "Wines of France" and the National French Wine Office.
The class will be taught by a Certified Wine Educator and will include a tasting of up to 6 wines. At the end of this class, you will receive a certificate of completion.
